LAYANAN streaming film Netflix mendominasi nominasi untuk Critics Choice Awards (CCA) ke-26 dengan memperoleh empat nominasi film terbaik. Angka ini memecahkan rekor untuk studio mana pun dalam sejarah CCA.
Empat film tersebut adalah Da 5 Bloods dari Spike Lee, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom dari George C. Wolfe, Mank dari David Fincher, dan The Trial of the Chicago 7 dari Aaron Sorkin.

Mank, film tentang pemeriksaan kolaborator penulis Citizen Kane Herman Mankiewicz, memimpin perolehan dengan 12 nominasi. Di antaranya termasuk nominasi film terbaik, sutradara terbaik, aktor terbaik untuk Gary Oldman dan aktris pendukung terbaik untuk Amanda Seyfried.
Minari karya Lee Isaac Chung, kisah semi-otobiografi tentang sebuah keluarga Korea yang pindah ke Arkansas pada 1980-an, berada di urutan kedua dengan 10 nominasi, termasuk film terbaik, film berbahasa asing, aktor Steven Yeun dan aktris pendukung Yuh-Jung Youn.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom mendapatkan delapan nominasi. Di urutan berikutnya ada News of the World dari Universal Pictures dari sutradara dan penulis Paul Greengrass yang mengumpulkan tujuh nominasi.
Secara keseluruhan Netflix menerima 46 nominasi film. Dan, bila digabungkan dengan 26 nominasi TV yang diumumkan bulan lalu, total penerimaan menjadi 72, terbanyak untuk studio atau jaringan mana pun.
A24 adalah studio film kedua yang paling banyak dinominasikan dengan 14, dan Amazon Studios tepat di belakang dengan 13 nominasi. Di seluruh film dan TV, HBO adalah yang kedua paling banyak dinominasikan dengan 24, dan Amazon Studios mengumpulkan total 18 nominasi.
Dalam Critics Choice Awards 2021, ada beberapa tahun di mana studio menerima tiga nominasi film terbaik dalam satu tahun. Terakhir kali pada tahun 2012 oleh Weinstein Company dengan Django Unchained, The Master dan Silver Linings Playbook. Ketiganya kalah dari pemenang film terbaik Argo.
Akibat pandemi COVID-19, malam pennganugerahan Critics Choice Awards akan berlangsung dalam pertunjukan hibrida secara langsung dan virtual dengan pembawa acara Taye Diggs dan beberapa presenter yang syuting dari sebuah panggung di Los Angeles.
